I took a painting I did in 2011-12 and carved it.  Then painted using acrylics.  I am happy with the outcome and have posted some detail photos so you can see the carving up close.

On my carving table today is my latest painting (not titled yet).  I have carved directly into the birch plywood.  We cut and mount the plywood so it is cradled, the 'frame' on the back.  I have also carved into the side of the piece.  I alternate with painting and carving and a bit of sanding.

Surprise, I am using dyes.  I love the way they soak into the wood where I do not add gesso.  I also use a watercolor gesso so the dyes act like watercolor only have permanence so I can varnish. On this piece I have added a bit of acrylic also.  I will add a video so you get an idea of the carving and the size.

Here is the painting on an easel.  To be continued.  I will post again when complete.
